Minor League Roundup: April 8, 2005

ICubs lose 9-6. With only 17 career minor league home runs in 1679 at-bats coming into this season, Ronny Cedeno was not the person you'd guess would start 2005 with home runs in two straight games. But that's what he's done (see recap of Game 1). Third baseman Mike Fontenot also homered. David Kelton had two hits in his first action of the season, starting in right field. Still, Iowa lost its second straight. Starting pitcher Renyel Pinto allowed 7 runs, 3 earned, in 3.1 innings of work.

Minor League Roundup: Apr. 7, 2005

ICubs lose 7-5. As already noted, Mark Prior threw 6 innings, allowed 7 runs on 9 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 7. Interestingly, David Kelton, the last position player cut this spring and who recently cleared waivers, did not play. Angel Echevarria started in left and Ben Grieve started in right. Third baseman Mike Fontenot, who came over in the Sammy Sosa trade, had a double and a triple. Shortstop Ronny Cedeno went 4-4, with a home run.
