Do you agree with Barack Obama's statement regarding Wrigley Field? (Posted below)

Harden Hard to Hit

Harden Hard to Hit - Rich Harden continued his great pitching for the Cubs today, lasting seven innings with eleven strikeouts. Once again, a solo home run proves to be the only way to score against Rich. He's now allowed nine runs pitching for Chicago,...

[Baseball Musings]

David Pinto discusses how good Rich Harden has been for the Cubs.

Hawks Don't Know Who Their Starters Are

hawkeye-logo One week before the start of the 2008 college football season and the Iowa Hawkeyes apparently still do not know who most of their starters are, including -- surprisingly -- at quarterback, reports the Iowa City Press-Citizen. Says head coach Kirk Ferentz, "Thank goodness we're not playing tomorrow. I don't know who we could schedule that we could compete with right now." Well, they do open the season against Maine, a division I-AA team that went 4-7 last year. So that helps.

Second annual "Walk with Therese" to stop domestic violence

Therese was an Andy Frain usher at Wrigley Field, Comiskey Park and other Chicago events.

She was murdered three years ago. Her husband still awaits trial.

I know there are many other ushers, vendors, Wrigley ballhawks, Pinkerton Guards, etc. from the ballparks who remember her, so I thought I'd share info regarding this event. Hope you can attend.

Cubs' Offense Producing Without Superstars; Fukudome to Bench?

Coming into play today, the Chicago Cubs lead the National League in runs scored, and it's not even close. They are outscoring the Philadelphia Phillies, who are second in the league, by 0.4 runs per game. The Phillies, of course, have Pat Burrell and Chase Utley, both of whom are in the top 10 in the NL in OPS. The Cubs do not have anyone in the top 10. Or the top 20. The first time you get to a Cubs' player on the NL OPS leaderboard is at #22, where Aramis Ramirez resides. And yet the Cubs' offense has been so good that it is even outscoring all of the DH-containing American League offenses save the Texas Rangers. The balance in the Cubs' offense and the strength of its bench is amazing. Which is helpful given that the $12M rookie -- Kosuke Fukudome -- may soon see more time on the bench, writes Yahoo! Sports Gordon Edes. Kosuke has a 720 OPS since April and a 602 OPS since June.

Hoffpauir ties PCL record with four jacks

Hoffpauir ties PCL record with four jacks - Hoffpauir ties mark with four HRs [MLB.com Chicago Cubs News]

Micah Hoffpauir had himself a game yesterday. The Cubs' minor league first baseman and corner outfielder is now hitting .374/.397/.776 in 51 games for Iowa this year. He hit .378/.410/.541 in 19 games for the big league club earlier this year. He will undoubtedly get a call-up when rosters expand in September and should be given a chance to take over the Daryle Ward role next year.

Golden retriever named Wrigley watches the Games on TV

Cubs vs Brewers - favorite quotes

Cubs vs Brewers - favorite quotes

Quote:
Alfonso Soriano and Kosuke Fukudome also homered for the Cubs, who swept four games from the Brewers for the first time since 2003.

“No one is happy after a game like this,” Brewers manager Ned Yost said. “We don’t like the fact that we allowed their fans to come into our park and have a four-day party. But that’s our fault.”

Quote:
The game nearly turned ugly in the ninth when relief pitcher Eric Gagne threw behind Edmonds on a 3-0 pitch and was immediately ejected by home plate umpire Doug Eddings.

“The umpire told me I can’t go inside,” Gagne said.

Ideas for extreme weather delays at Wrigley

I'd like to see the Cubs do a few things during rain delays and especially in lightning delays...

1. Invite the bleacher folks to the covered grandstand for the rest of the game. There was plenty of room for them at last night's game and they wouldn't have been at risk like they were in the bleachers.

2. Offer free rain ponchos like at Niagara Falls, Maid of the Mist boat ride. This is an advertising opportunity and a chance at some additional goodwill. Remember, the fans paid a LOT for their tickets...do what you can to keep them healthy and safe.

3. If its a cold rainy delay, offer free hot chocolate to the fans.
Hospitality is the key here.

Name that ex-Cub (trivia question)

This former Cub was scouted by the father of a current Cub player and was traded for the son of that baseball scout.

Can you name this ex-Cub?

Who is the scout and who is the scout's son?
