Marquis Grissom Retires
Marquis Grissom today announced he is retiring. At the beginning of the spring, it appeared all too certain that Grissom would make the big league club as a backup outfielder. But Grissom hit just .200/.256/.250 this spring in 40 at-bats and, by a number of reports, including this one from Derek Smart, appeared slow in the outfield. Grissom finishes his career with a 92 OPS+ and 4 Gold Glove awards. Grissom's retirement also appears to ensure what had become certain in recent days: Angel Pagan, purchased from the New York Mets in the offseason, will make the 25-man roster.
