Minor League Roundup 4-8-2006

Hagerty throws his first pitches in a full season league and Pie gets three hits.

Iowa won 4-1. Starting pitcher Raul Valdes threw 5 shutout innings and Roberto Novoa threw 2 shutout innings for the save. Felix Pie went 3-4 with a double, 2 runs, and 2 RBI's. Geovany Soto and Ryan Theriot each reached base 3 times.

West Tenn won 1-0. Starting pitcher Randy Wells threw 6 innings, allowing just 1 run (a solo homer), while striking out 7 and issuing just 1 free pass. But that 1 run was 1 too many for West Tenn's offense tonight, as they were shutout. Micah Hoffpauir has replaced Brian Dopirak, who is out with a broken foot, at first base.

Daytona lost 7-1. Luke Hagerty, drafted 32nd overall by the Cubs in 2002 draft, finally threw his first pitch in a full season league. With arm injuries, he threw all of 15.2 innings from 2003-05 at short-season-A Boise. Unfortunately, it didn't go well. He didn't get out of the 2nd inning, allowing 4 runs on 5 walks and 3 hits in 1.2 innings.

Peoria lost 6-3. First baseman Ryan Norwood went 3-5 with a double. Second baseman Robinson Chirinos reached base 3 times.
