Minor League Roundup 4-10-2006

Pie hits a grand slam and then drives in the winning run; Mateo makes season debut; & Daytona has a power outage. Literally.

Iowa won 7-6 in 11 innings. Rich Hill demonstrated good control, striking out 6 in innings without walking a batter, allowing just 1 run on a solo home run. Unfortunately, Roberto Novoa blew the save in the 9th inning, allowing 2 runs. David Aardsma then came on and threw perfect innings in the 10th and 11th, with 4 K's, to pick up the victory. The winning run was singled home by -- who else? -- Felix Pie, who also hit a grand slam in the game. Mike Fontenot hit a pinch-hit home run.

West Tenn won 3-2. Juan Mateo allowed 2 runs in 5 innings in his season debut, striking out 4 and walking none.

Daytona is losing 5-3. Before Daytona could come back and win in the 9th inning, a power outage caused a suspension of the game. Grant Johnson allowed 4 runs in 5.2 innings, hurting himself with 4 walks. Third baseman Jemel Spearman is 2-4 with 2 doubles.

Peoria won 7-5 in 10 innings in my home town, but I couldn't attend (and can't attend any of the games of this series). Ryan Norwood and Brandon Taylor each hit their first home runs of the year.
