Minor League Roundup 4-11-2006
Sheets shuts down Iowa; Mathes throws well; and Lewis plays some outfield.
Iowa lost 4-1. Brewers pitcher Ben Sheets made a rehab start against the ICubs and appeared in top form, throwing 5.2 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits and no walks, and striking out 9. Not even Felix Pie could do anything against Sheets. For Iowa, Jae-kuk Ryu was slightly less impressive, allowing 4 runs in 5 innings.
West Tenn won 3-1. JR Mathes threw 5 innings of 1 run ball. Richard Lewis played a little bit of left field, meaning I may have been right when I said this on April 3: "Given that Patterson is entrenched at second, and the fact that the Diamond Jaxx only have three outfielders on the roster, I wonder if the Cubs won't do something like what they did with Buck Coats and have Lewis learn the outfield."
Daytona lost 4-1. Justin Berg allowed just 1 run in 5.2 innings, to along with 7 K's.
Peoria lost 6-0. Donald Veal allowed 3 runs in 5.2 innings, strking out 7 and walking 3. There is nothing good to say about Peoria's offense in this game.
