Minor League Roundup 4-12-2006

Some nice pitching, but little hitting, as Aardsma, Marmol, and Gallagher continue to dominate.

Iowa lost 2-0. Iowa managed just 2 hits, singles by Mike Fontenot. Les Walrond threw the ball better than his first start, but Bobby Brownlie continues to struggle out of the bullpen, allowing 3 hits and 1 run in his inning of work. Brownlie has now allowed 11 hits and 6 runs in 3.1 innings this season. David Aardsma struck out 2 in a scoreless 9th and has now pitched 5 scoreless innings on the year with 8 K's and zero BB's.

West Tenn lost 2-1
. Carlos Marmol continues to dominate, throwing 6 shutout innings. He now has 12 shutout innings to start the year. He allowed just 1 hit and 2 walks, striking out 8. Lincoln Holdzkom gave up the winning runs. The Diamond Jaxx had 9 hits, 3 by leadoff hitter Chris Walker, but only brought around 1 to the plate. They have just 1 home run (Eric Patterson) in 7 games.

Daytona won 2-0
. Sean Gallagher opened last year with 40 innings before allowing an earned run, at low-A Peoria. For high-A Daytona this year, he's now at 12 innings, after tonight's game. He has 12 K's and 2 BB's. Angelo Burrows and Adalberto Mendez completed the shutout. Nic Jackson hit a home run.

Peoria lost 7-3. Rightfielder Jesus Valdez hit his first home run of the year and shortstop Dylan Johnson had 2 hits, including a triple (while making his third error in 6 games).

The Cubs' pitching prospects looked good tonight, but their four full season minor league teams scored merely a combined 6 runs.
