Minor League Roundup 4-13-2006

Valdes pitches well again, Hagerty still can't find the zone, and Harvey homers twice.

Iowa won 2-1. Raul Valdes pitched well again, allowing just 1 run in 5 innings. Roberto Novoa picked up the win with 2 shutout innings. Jeff Deardorff homered and doubled.

West Tenn won 3-1. Randy Wells threw 6.2 innings of 1 run ball. First baseman Micah Hoffpauir hit his first home run of the season.

Daytona lost 7-4. Luke Hagerty was bad again. He threw 1.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 1 hit, 4 walks, and 2 hit batsmen. That follows his first start, in which he allowed 4 runs on 5 walks and 3 hits in 1.2 innings. I can't imagine that Hagerty has much time left in Daytona's rotation. On the bright side, Chris Shaver threw 4 shutout innings, striking out 8. He has now opened the season with 8 shutout innings. RF Ryan Harvey was big at the plate, hitting his first two homers of the year.

Peoria lost 10-4. SS Dylan Johnston committed his 4th error of the season, leading to 1 of the 5 unearned runs the Chiefs allowed. LF Johnny Defendis made the other error, contributing to the other 4 unearned runs. How does a guy named Defendis make errors?
