Pre-Game Notes 4-19: Penny Has Been Very Good This Year
If you would have said at the beginning of the season that after 13 games Juan Pierre would have a 564 OPS, Aramis Ramirez 664, and Jacque Jones 561, and Carlos Zambrano would have started 4 games without recording a win, few people would have guessed that the Cubs' record would be 8-5. But that's what it is. Oh, and the Cubs are last in the National League in walks drawn and second to last in OBA. Matt Murton and Ronny Cedeno are hitting well (though Cedeno might not draw a walk all year), and Todd Walker has certainly picked up the slack. The top four relievers in the pen have been excellent, and maybe this team, if it's going to win, will have to rely on its pen as much as the 2002 Angels (but who gets to play the role of Francisco Rodriguez?).
In any event, tonight the Cubs face the Dodgers' Brad Penny. Penny has struck out 18 and walked just 1 in 18 innings this year, which is not a good combination for an impatient Cubs' offense.
