Rogers on Dubois
Phil Rogers writes in Monday's Chicago Tribune ("Dubois' raw deal just a matter of bad timing," 3/28/2005):
There might be 29 better teams for an unproven player to try to establish himself than with the Sammy Sosa-free Cubs of 2005.Wrong place, wrong time.
Dusty Baker's reputation was diminished when the Cubs lost their playoff spot in the last week of last season. His pride was wounded by the way Sosa gave him the back of his hand. And he's never been the most open-minded of managers about playing young hitters.
For Baker, the stakes are too high this time around to make [Jason] Dubois the successor to Moises Alou in left field.
Cub Fan Nation and View from the Bleachers have also recently discussed Dubois, with both (correctly) worried about the possibility that Dubois might not even get the final roster spot.
