Why add another blog?
Why add my voice to the large number of Cub blogs? Good question. A big reason involves that sense of community a Cub fan feels, that desire to be an active citizen in CubNation. After reading so many of the blogs here, I naturally wanted to weigh in and share my opinions with the rest of you. I understand there's no guarantee anybody will read any of this, but it feels good to take a seat, sip a cold one, and get in on the discussion.
I've always enjoyed going to the ballpark and finding myself caught up in conversations or arguments with perfect strangers. That to me is part of the fun of being there, the interaction with fellow fans of whatever stripe. Some question every move, wondering "what are they thinking?". Others rabidly back every thing their beloved team does, even down to drinking the kool-aid. I'm somewhere in between.
A little background, if you please.(can I get a blue spot? thanks.)
I was born in Chicago, Harvey, to be exact, in a hospital that I believe is now a parking lot. That's where I got it, by all accounts. My family are all Cardinal fans. My In-laws are split, but the immediate In-laws are Cub fans. Makes for some interesting holiday conversations, I don't have to tell you.
My wife and I were there at Game 6 against the Marlins. Really. I have the ticket stub to prove it, plus a number of witnesses, not the least of which my co-workers who swear they saw me on TV. Wrigley was the happiest place on earth that night, for a while. Then it was more like being at a funeral. I told my colleagues (who were ready to put me on suicide watch) that I felt as though I had been there at the defining moment of Cubfandom for my generation.
We were too young to take the blame for not letting the goat into the stadium. We were too young to be at Shea when the black cat ran out. Most of us were too young to be there when Leon (BillyBuck) Durham let that grounder under his gatorade soaked glove, but we were certainly watching on TV. Yes, we (along with Will Clark) saw Maddux say, "fastball" back in '89. The boys of 1998 with their miraculous entry as a wild card. All milestones (or millstones, the cynic might say) in Cubs history, but the more recent events cannot compare to the nightmare of game 6.
Yes, that game. The B------ game, as it's come to be known. I don't like to use the name of the unfortunate young man, he's been dragged around enough. The foul ball game, if you will. Being there was like earning a badge of courage, emerging from the trial of fire still breathing. For I still breath, and still believe.
I hope you enjoy the ramblings of a Cub fan as I try to capture and express my love of the game, and the highs and lows of following the Cubs.

Welcome
Welcome to the Cubs Blog Army!
I've always enjoyed going to the ballpark and finding myself caught up in conversations or arguments with perfect strangers.
That's exactly what this army, along with all those that populate the various message boards, is: one big conversation among fans.
