Maddux Named Pitcher of the Month

The Chicago Cubs have been outscored 121-108 this year and yet are 14-11. A big reason for their .560 winning percentage has been the performance of Greg Maddux. Today, Maddux was named the National League Pitcher of the Month. Maddux is 2nd in the league in ERA at 1.35, just .03 ERA points behind the Braves' John Thomson, though in 6 more innings. Through May 1, Maddux is 2nd in the NL and 3rd in the majors in Runs Prevented. (The Cardinals' Chris Carpenter has 1 more start than Maddux, so has slightly better advanced cumulative stats.)

This is the 10th time Maddux has won the award and the first time since July 2001.
