Confirming what became almost certain yesterday, the Cubs today optioned Will Ohman to Triple-A Iowa, reports MLB.com. The Cubs also traded Cody Ransom to Texas for a PTBNL, reassigned Calvin Murray and Angel Echevarria to minor league camp, and released Stephen Randolph. As for Randolph, let's hope that the PTBNL the Cubs gave up to get him really turns out to be a no one.
One player still in camp: Dave Hansen. But why? Though the Cubs could use his solid lefthanded bat off the bench, they've stated they are going to carry 13 pitchers, meaning that there is no room for Hansen on the roster.
What I'd do: Cut Ryan Dempster. Make Glendon Rusch the fifth starter, based on last year's performance. Go with eleven pitchers (LaTroy Hawkins, Mike Remlinger, Chad Fox, Cliff Bartosh, Jon Leicester, and Michael Wuertz in the bullpen). And keep Hansen. Also, cut Jose Macias and keep David Kelton, preventing him from being exposed to waivers. No one has yet to explain Macias's purpose on the roster.

Jose can you see?

I thought it was agreed upon that Macias has incriminating pictures of Dusty and Hendry. I'm sure Dusty would vigorously defend him based on his "contribution" to last year's playoff drive. I have to wonder if Hendry came up to Dusty and said "Neifi or Jose - choose" and Dusty wanted both. Is there a Lenny Harris Memorial spot on the bench now?
I'm not very familiar with Fox or Bartosh - how are they worth keeping over Dempster? As I mentioned in the previous post, Hendry wants to see if Dempster can be one of those sleeper picks that blooms under the "masterful" Dusty touch.
Bartosh's value is that he's

Bartosh's value is that he's a lefty and can make batters miss pitches. So he'll stick. Fox, in every season in which he has been healthy, has ranged from a good to very good reliever, something Dempster has never been.

So much for Dave Hansen still being on the spring roster. MLB.com reports that he's been released.
