Trib: Cubs Call Up Theriot

As has been noted elsewhere, "the Cubs called up second baseman Ryan Theriot from Triple-A Iowa on Monday," reports the Chicago Tribune. No word yet on who is being sent down. One would think Freddie Bynum.

Theriot is hitting .282/.328/.309 in 110 at-bats, playing both the infield and outfield, at Iowa this year. It's hard to see how that line merits a call-up.

UPDATE (9:15pm):
Bynum stays and Michael Restovich goes back to Iowa. It's a good thing, too. I'm not sure what the Cubs could do with a righthanded hitter with some pop instead of another light-hitting utility player. A team just can't have enough guys like Bynum, Theriot, Neifi Perez, and Jerry Hairston, Jr. It's time to start the petition drive to bring back Jose Macias. Also, I'd really like to hear Jim Hendry's explanation for putting Restovich on the 40-man roster.

Hendry

Also, I'd really like to hear Jim Hendry's explanation for putting Restovich on the 40-man roster.

You could ask him, but I'm afraid you might get the same answer Scott Clanton got.
