Obnoxious Red Sox Fan
The self-proclaimed Sports Guy, Billy Simmons, has a column coming out in the April 11 issue of ESPN The Magazine. In it he tries to sound nice about waiting for Cub's fans to break their "curse" and join the Red Sox fans. He implies that we have had this bond for years, yet I don't feel it.
Red Sox fans can be lumped together with Yankee fans as far as I'm concerned. I think Billy has run out of things to write about the Sox so he comes up with this subtle dig at Cubs fans:
So let the Bartman grudge go, even if the rest of the world won't. Not only were 20 other fans going for that foul ball, the game was lost because Dusty didn't trust his bullpen. Don't chalk up team failures to a curse; the Sox proved that logic wrong. And when it comes, don't be afraid to give yourself to a playoff run.
I'll keep my Bartman grudge, thank you very much. Maybe if Alou catches the ball, that could have been the turning point like Dave Robert's stolen base, where the Red Sox won 8 in a row after that. How many times were the Red Sox in the World Series since 1945 before they won the championship? Hmmmm!
Billy has some occasionally funny items at ESPN.com, but this was not one of them.
