Felix Pie Has Big Game, Hits Walk Off Homer

Iowa Cubs' CF Felix Pie had a big game last night, reports the Des Moines Register:

Felix Pie knew he hit the ball hard to right field with two outs in the ninth inning. He didn't know until he reached first base that the line drive barely cleared the fence in right field.

His walk-off home run, on a 3-2 count, resulted in the end of a three-game losing streak and provided the Iowa Cubs a 7-5 win over Colorado Springs before a paid crowd of 4,327 at Principal Park, of which only 1,430 showed up on a chilly, windy night.

It was Pie's second homer of the night, and his third of the year. He is now hitting .269/.331/.446 on the season.

MLB.com's Carrie Muskat writes in her notes column today that "If [Jacque] Jones' groin gets worse, the drumbeats for Felix Pie could intensify.

It's still too early for that, even if Jones is hurt worse that what it currently appears. My preference would be for Pie to play the entire year at Iowa this year. He's not going to be able to do enough to help the big league club make the playoffs, and he's still raw enough that he would be better served learning and playing everyday in triple-A.
