Barrett Suspended 10 Games

Michael Barrett has been suspended 10 games for the May 20th fight against A.J. Pierzynski, reports MLB.com. No word yet on whether Barrett will appeal the length of the suspension, which would allow him to play in today's game against the Braves.

UPDATE (12:30pm CT): Barrett is appealing the suspension.

He got off easy.

Personally I think Barrett got off easy with only ten games. I read of other incidents where players hit one another and were given as much as sixteen game suspensions.

Updated Bleacher Bums play includes Barratt / Pierzynski

I saw the original Bleacher Bums way back when in the theatre. Looks like it has been updated.

Originally written by members of Chicago's Organic Theatre Company including Dennis ("NYPD Blue") Franz and Joe (any movie David Mamet ever made) Montegna, the piece premiered back in 1977. Since then, it's been revised and updated countless times to feature various teams and reflect current line-ups.

Oak Park's Scott Dunnell updated the piece for Open Door, making sure to include the infamous incident this past season when Cubs catcher Michael Barrett punched Sox catcher AJ Pierzynski in the side of the head after Pierzynski ran Barrett down at the plate.
