Kelton, Mitre Optioned to Iowa; Prior Likely to DL

MLB.com reports: "The Chicago Cubs trimmed the roster Saturday, announcing that outfielder David Kelton and pitcher Sergio Mitre were optioned to Triple-A Iowa." With Mark Prior likely to start the season on the disabled list (backdated to March 25), "Cubs manager Dusty Baker said outfielder Jason Dubois and pitchers Jon Leicester, Todd Wellemeyer and Michael Wuertz all made the big league team."

My guess is that Wellemeyer is the one who benefitted from Prior's expected short stint on the DL.

Regarding Prior, he "threw 67 pitches over four innings against the San Diego Padres' Triple-A team on Saturday." The good news is that he did not feel any pain following the outing. The bad news is that he was not very good, giving up 7 hits (2 of them homers) and 3 walks, while striking out 5. Prior chalked up the performance to bad -- though fixable -- mechanics.
