Adam Greenberg Cut; Dopirak Back from DL
One pitch faced may be the extent of Adam Greenberg's major league career. Sadly, the Cubs released him today. He was a surprise call-up from double-A last year due to the failures of Corey Patterson, but he lasted just one pitch, which hit him in the head.
Greenberg hasn't been the same since. He hit .179/.266/.202 for West Tenn this year in 84 at-bats and 9 walks and .118/.118/.118 in 17 at-bats for Iowa. Here's to hoping another team picks him up and he finds himself as a backup outfielder for a big league team in a few years.
What prompted the cutting of Greenberg was the return of Brian Dopirak from his time on the DL with a broken foot. Dopirak was in tonight's lineup, going 2-for-4 in a 3-0 West Tenn loss. Dopirak's return is bad news for Brandon Sing. Sing has gone from one of the most feared hitters in the Cubs' minor league system to a man fighting for playing time, back in double-A after starting the year at triple-A Iowa. With Greenberg gone, Sing could be seeing some playing time in rightfield.
