Cubs Promote Billek from Peoria to Daytona

The Chicago Cubs announced that they have promoted righthanded pitcher Mike Billek from low-A Peoria to high-A Daytona. Billek was the Cubs' 3rd round draft pick in 2005. He had just a 5.66 ERA in 35 innings for Peoria prior to the promotion, but following his move from the starting rotation to the bullpen after four starts, he had a 1.53 ERA in 17.2 innings. Last year, Billek had a 2.65 ERA in 17 innings for short-season-A Boise and a 4.06 ERA in 37.2 innings for Peoria.

For a big guy (he's 6'4" and 235 pounds), he doesn't have great strikeout numbers, striking out 6.2 batters per 9 innings for Peoria over the past two seasons.
