Cubs Promote Jake Fox to West Tenn
The Chicago Cubs have promoted C Jake Fox from high-A Daytona to AA West Tenn, reports the Chicago Tribune. Fox has hit .313/.383/.574 in 249 at-bats and 27 walks for Daytona this season. The move is bad news for catchers Jose Reyes and Tony Richie, who had been splitting time at catcher for the Diamond Jaxx. Both Reyes and Richie have been bad at the plate this season, with 525 and 526 OPSs, respectively.
In a somewhat puzzling move, Reyes was added to the 40-man roster this past offseason. Reyes is repeating AA. Known as a strong defensive catcher, Reyes had a 631 OPS for West Tenn last year. According to a June 18, 2006 article by Bob Heist in the Jackson Sun, Reyes "wasn't happy about returning to Double-A" this year. Well, he's certainly not going to be happy about now losing his starting job.
