Reyes and Wells Promoted to Iowa

Jose Reyes won't have to take a back seat to Jake Fox in double-A after all. The Chicago Cubs have promoted Reyes, along with former catcher turned pitcher Randy Wells, to triple-A Iowa. Reyes will presumably split time with Geovany Soto, who also hasn't hit much this year (649 OPS). The two will fight it out to become the next Henry Blanco.

Wells, 23, is a 6'5" righty who has posted a Southern League leading 1.59 ERA this year in 62.1 innings. He's struck out 54 and walked just 13. Last year, he had a 2.74 ERA in 98.2 innings for high-A Daytona, with a 4.8 K/BB ratio.

Casey Kopitzke has been serving as the backup catcher for Iowa, but he has just a 550 OPS in 19 games.

In another move, Federico Baez has been sent back down to AA West Tenn from Iowa.
