Yankees interested in Jones

The following article talks about how the Yankees have some interest in Jacque Jones. In my opinion I make this deal regardless of what you get in return. Although I admit that Jones has been fairly consistent and some what of a bright spot, I still feel that it was a mistake to sign him. If the Yankees are willing to take his contract off the Cubs' hands I say make the deal. We can plug in Pie, or Restovich for the remainder of the year. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseba...

yes, yes, yes, trade Jones

I agree. While it's nice to see him hit, he's dumb as a rock and can't throw. I have personally followed games this year in which he's been doubled off second base a total of THREE times! Maybe there were even more than that. Season's over, so save $10 mill and give Pie a shot.

Get someone good

I don't think the Cubs are looking to "salary dump" so I would only be in favor of trading him for someone(s) good. Jones is no Sammy, but on this '06 Cubs team is like our second best hitter (even after a slumping start) and giving him away would be ridiculous. Yes, he throws the ball into the ground, and got picked off a bunch. But I feel like he plays otherwise good defense (not great, remember the ball in the sun) and hits well. I especially like his ability to hit with power to the opposite field.

But if you're throwing away this season that's fine. What's another rookie to add to the squad? But throwing away the next several would be stupid. Get someone good in return. The Cubs are a big market team and don't need to fire-sale. They got enough revenue coming in to cover.

Need could drive up price

Of course, try to get good value. But Steinbrenner is panicking and his need should allow the Cubs to get more in return than they otherwise might. But further, if you're considering the future, I would prefer to build with players who play the game the right way, which Jones clearly doesn't. Take a lesson from the Patriots: smart plaerys = team success.

oops

"players"...sorry for the typo

pitching woes

With Wood's self declaration that he may be finished for the year and Prior's really poor showing, it looks like time to contribute to the pitching staff if Jones is traded.

A plant

Jones has played well this year, but I'd be happy if the Cubs were able to get rid of his 3-year contract. I wonder if this story in the New York Daily News, though, isn't just a plant by the Yankees to show that the team that has the player they really want that they could look elsewhere. In other words, it could just be a bargaining chip. Or it just could be that the Yankees are thinking through a number of outfield options, and that this won't actually lead anywhere as the Yankees go for someone else.

Would you take Kyle Farnsworth for Jacque Jones?
