Rosenthal: Orioles Likely to Seek Trade of Tejada in Offseason
FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports that "[t]he [Baltimore] Orioles are less likely to trade [Miguel] Tejada before July 31 than they are during the off-season, when they could market him to a greater number of clubs. At that point, Tejada will have three years and $38 million left on his contract."
Recall that the Cubs apparently could have had Tejada in this past offseason in exchange for Mark Prior. The Cubs killed the deal by insisting that the Orioles include Erik Bedard (5.09 ERA in 16 starts) in the exchange, with the Orioles then demanding Felix Pie or a top pitching prospect.
Tejada has been 3.8 wins better than Ronny Cedeno this season, according to Baseball Prospectus's WARP2 stat. Prior, of course, has not been able to make up that difference.
It is no doubt going to take more than Prior now if the Cubs decide to make another move for Tejada this offseason.
