Hinrich Named to Team USA

"The Bulls guard will be added to the USA Basketball team that plays in the world championships next month and the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, NBA sources confirmed Tuesday," reports Sam Smith of the Chicago Tribune.

Hinrich has a good chance to make the cut for the 2006 World Championships:

Hinrich's chances are enhanced because questions have developed about the participation of several players this summer and the team is considered weak at point guard, especially defensively.
. . . .
The point guards picked among the 23 are Gilbert Arenas, Chris Paul, Luke Ridnour and Chauncey Billups.

Billups will practice with the team, but prior commitments will keep him from playing in the world championships. Arenas is more a scoring point guard and is regarded as a poor defender, and the team already features scoring perimeter players Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James.

Paul just completed his rookie season, and Ridnour slumped last season for Seattle as he essentially lost his job to Earl Watson.
