Speier Arrested for DUI

The Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune are reporting that Cubs' third base coach Chris Speier was arrested at 1:40am Wednesday morning for driving under the influence and running a stop light on his motorcycle, according to Chicago police. Speier has been mentioned by the media as a possible replacement for Dusty Baker, should Baker be fired or not have his contract extended. This is the kind of thing that can derail such talk.

Speier Placed on Leave; Quade Takes Over at Third

"The Cubs put third-base coach Chris Speier on a leave of absence for several days after he was charged early Wednesday with drunken driving," reports the Chicago Sun-Times. "Class AAA Iowa manager Mike Quade will join the team today to take over third-base coaching duties until Speier returns. Roving instructor Bobby Dickerson will manage the Iowa Cubs in Quade's absence."
