Shipman and Pignatiello Promoted to Iowa

The Cubs made a number of minor league moves today:

  • OF Nic Jackson was placed on the DL with a tender left hip flexor.
  • LHP Issac Pavlik was signed from an independent league and placed with AA West Tenn.

Shipman, 24, has been up and down between West Tenn and Iowa this season. He has a 1.76 ERA in 15.1 innings with West Tenn and a 3.13 ERA in 37.1 innings with Iowa.

Pignatiello, 23, became a full-time reliever this year and had a 2.79 ERA in 48.1 innings for West Tenn, with an impressive 59/17 K/BB ratio.

This had been Jackson's first healthy season since 2003, when he was still a prospect. 26 now, Jackson has hit .297/.368/.453 for West Tenn this year in 256 at-bats and 28 walks after an early season promotion.

Holdzkom, 24 and one of the pitchers the Cubs acquired for Todd Wellemeyer (who, by the way, still can't throw strikes) in the spring, had thrown 5 innings for Daytona without allowing a run. He threw 6.1 innings for West Tenn earlier in the year and allowed 3 runs.

Weston, 25, has hit .241/.305/.310 for Daytona this season in 174 at-bats and 13 walks.

Pavlik has been a starter for the New Jersey Jackals in the Can-Am League. He has posted a 2.86 ERA in 72.1 innings, with a 65/17 K/BB ratio.
