The Trouble With Burnitz

I understand that the Cubs need a big time player to replace Sammy Sosa in right field ... I do ... but I'm a little worried about this Burnitz pickup for two reasons. First his numbers aren't worth the $4+ million contract. His batting average last year was .283 with a .356 OBP ... not bad except that he was playing in Colorado where curve balls don't curve and home runs don't come back. His batting average is ... well ... average and is On Base Percentage is even more average. Moreover, Burnitz is a certified Cubs Killer which means odds are, he won't play real well in a Cubs uniform.

The good thing about Burnitz is that he can play long ball, which in the absence of Alou and Sosa will be appreciaate. He's a left handed long ball hitter at that ... which gives us a little balance.

Burnitz seems to be one of those guys who streaks. We he's on ... he's unstopable ... when he slumps ... he really slumps. Let's hope Dusty can keep his head on straight.

RE: The Trouble With Burnitz

There is definitely a talent drop from the Cubs' '04 outfield to the Cubs' '05 outfield. But Burnitz always seemed to be a guy you wanted to cheer for. Someone who played hard and did what he could within his abilities to help the team win. While I certainly wasn't excited to first hear about the Cubs' interest in Burnitz, now that he's on the team, I'll be cheering for him.

How Burnitz will be a waste of space.

Jeromy Burnitz was waste in Brewers, mets, and Dodgers. Why because he had one to many strike outs.....wait way to many strike outs and a few homeruns wow. If anyone thinks he will put up 30 homeruns and play 162 games have lost there minds. He has never played 162 games and to hit 30 plus homeruns he better hope he plays in Coors Field alot. because in Wrigley he will have maybe 15 tops at home. With the winds of wrigley blowing in alot and the Steriod testing being done alot he will be lucky to hit 20 all year. Plus with the wind blowing from right field to left alot all I can say alot of flyouts to right center and center field. So only spot for him will be is a seat on a plane at O'Hare about 2 months in.

I don't think the steriod tes

I don't think the steriod testing will effect Burnitz. He doesn't strike me as someone who took any steriods.
