Cubs Trade Nevin to Twins for PTBNL

The Chicago Cubs traded infielder Phil Nevin and cash considerations to the Minnesota Twins on Thursday in exchange for a player to be named later.

The Cubs had acquired Nevin at the end of May when they sent Jerry Hairston, Jr. to Texas. Nevin had a .271 EqA for the Cubs in 179 at-bats and 17 walks.

No Surprises There!

He was definitely slated to be traded now that Lee is back in. I'm really excited about Lee's performance this time around, btw. It makes me excited for next year.

Really?

What about Lee's performance other than the fact that he has not re-injured himself yet makes you "excited for next year"? He is only a shadow of his former self. You must be the kind of Cubs fan who is always seeing things in rose colored glasses.

Yes Really

What about being 9 for 20 is a shadow? Since returning he is on pace for a season of hitting .450 with 150 runs, 150 RBI, 30 HR, and 30 SB. But I guess it must be the rose colored glasses...

Small Sample Size, Etc.

First off, that is an absurdly small sample size. Also, while those numbers might be nice for the very short run, Lee himself does not look that great, esp. in the field. His fielding is off his normal pace. Today, Lee was 0-for-4. Using your line of reasoning, that game shows that Lee is on pace for a season of absolute zeroes across the board.

I was not engaged in a "line

I was not engaged in a "line of reasoning" and am actually quite well aware of the logic behind a sample size. I was not making a statistical argument, merely pointing out that it is "absurd" to critique the first poster's feelings of excitement based on his performance. You are actually allowed to feel excited based on a small sample size. There is certaintly enough there to get excited about in anticipating a full recovery prior to the beginning of next season, etc. Furthermore, I actually don't notice anything "off pace" in his fielding. In fact, he was able to run and field long before he could swing - those skills are right on pace in my opinion. He's hitting the ball hard, taking full swings, handling check swings well, and doesn't look over matched. You can be debbie downer if you want, but I'll choose to focus on the positives. Missing the vast majority of the season and doing as well as he has so far in the second return certaintly bodes well for next season.

Phil Nevin and Sammy Sosa

Phil Nevin was part of the Sammy Sosa trade history.

Sosa was traded to the Orioles for Jerry Hairston, Jr., Mike Fontenot and David Crouthers.

Now, wouldn't it be interesting if the Twins signed Sammy Sosa and then sent him to the Cubs as that player to be named later?
