Ross Gload Contributing in Opportunity With White Sox

Former Chicago Cub Ross Gload is taking advantage of his opportunity, in a limited role, with the White Sox this season, reports the Chicago Tribune's Mark Gonzales:

Gload has raised his batting average from .283 to .328 during an eight-game hitting streak in which he's 13-for-26. Manager Ozzie Guillen indicated Gload would continue to play when designated hitter Jim Thome's left hamstring needs a rest and that Gload would start in this week's Boston series to give Jermaine Dye a break.

"He's the guy I always worried about early in the season because I couldn't [get him] enough playing time," Guillen said. "But in the meanwhile, he kept working, doing his job and swinging well for us. He's come through in the clutch, in a pinch-hitting situation and playing the field.

"He's been great, especially with his attitude."

Gload played 18 games for the Cubs in 2000. They had acquired him that year in a deadline deal with the Florida Marlins that sent Henry Rodriguez to Florida. Gload then went crazy in a month with the Iowa Cubs, hitting 14 homers in 28 games. He didn't produce so much in his September call-up. Gload ended up hitting .297/.344/.501 in a full season with Iowa in 2001. Gload, now 30, is in his third season with the White Sox.
