Brenly knows this Cubs team

One thought on Bob Brenly is that he really, really knows this 2006 Cubs team. He's taken notes and had to develop comments regarding the team for broadcast all season long.

What about Felipe Alou ?

Might Dusty be headed back to the Giants?

When Dusty Baker left San Francisco to become manager of the Chicago Cubs after the 2002 season, the Giants hired Felipe Alou.

The managerial merry-go-round claimed both Baker and Alou on Monday.

I like this quote from Felipe Alou...

"Even though I will not be the Giants manager next year, I will always be a Giant," said Alou, who was signed as a player by the franchise in 1955. "Ever since I was signed by the Giants as a student out of the University of Santo Domingo, I've always considered myself a Giant."

Does anyone remember the quote from Felipe's son Moises who said something to the effect of "I am not a Cub fan, I am a Cub player". ???

RE: What about Felipe Alou ?

I added him to the list of choices, removing Fredi Gonzalez, since he has been swooped up by the Marlins. I also added Frank Robinson and Buck Showalter.

I really have no idea who I would want.

Buck Showalter

Showalter has the track record of improving teams and the maturity to tell Hendry and McDonough in a civilized way that they are wrong when he thinks so.

Steve Stone doesn't want to be a MLB manager

Some Cubs fans have suggested former Cubs pitcher and announcer Steve Stone for the manager's job.

Here is Steve's comment regarding that issue...

Return to Cubs booth depends on Brenly

Stone initially laughed when asked he would consider a position on the baseball side.

"I'm a free agent," he said. "I'll consider everything except managing. I will not be a manager."

For now Stone will watch how things play out with Brenly, who has two years left on his contract with the Cubs. One big domino has to fall before Stone can consider returning.

quote from article...

Stealth candidate: Hendry revealed Ryne Sandberg asked for and was granted an interview for the managerial vacancy, but he made his interest known too late, after Hendry had settled on Piniella. Sandberg probably will have to manage in the minors before being considered for a job with the big-league club.

Personally, I really like the current announcers for the Cubs.

But I enjoyed Steve Stone and Chip Caray too.

In fact, after Steve's interview with Dusty Baker (the one that probably led to his next career) I chatted with Governor Blagojevich (a Cubs fan) and thanked him for offering a pardon to Steve for those statements.

Anyway, one Steve Stone fan is working extra hard to bring Steve Stone back into the Wrigley Field broadcast booth.
