Lou Piniella - Cubs connections of the past

This gets interesting.

As a player for the Yankees, Lou Piniella was platooned with Bobby Murcer and Oscar Gamble for most of his NYY career.

I wonder if Piniella was the reason Murcer was traded to the Cubs.

The above webpage also mentions that:

Piniella became the team’s (NYY) TV commentator after Dallas Green was hired in 1989 to replace him in the dugout,...

Dallas Green left the Cubs after the 1987 season.
