Rothschild is Back; Now Can He Just Teach Our Pitchers How to Throw a Curve and Changeup?
With the news that Larry Rothschild is back, and his hopes that fortunes will change, will he please work with pitchers to develop other pitches and end an over dependency on the slider. I watch a lot of baseball and Cubs pitchers seem to use the slider as their offspeed pitch more than any other team it seems. I heard a color analyst in a playoff game recently say that sliders are more easy to hit than curves or changeups because they are similar in speed to the fastball. I noticed David Aardsma late last season looking brilliant mixing in slow curves and change-ups along with his overpowering fastball. Need more recent history, look at Jeff Suppan last night.
