Chicago Cubs fans and St. Louis Cardinal fans after the World Series

October 30, 2006 by diana

Did anyone watch the WGN news Friday night? I think they offered a mention that the Cardinals won the World Series...and that was about it.

I was hoping that was all I would hear about it. Yeah, I was wrong about that.

On Saturday, those Cardinal shirts were seen all over my Illinois city.
The local Walmart is featuring them - perhaps that's why.

I have seen some folks wearing Cubs shirts and hats this weekend, and I do tell those folks "yea Cubs!". I love seeing the little kids wearing Cubs logo stuff after the Cards won the World Series.

On Sunday the first person to greet me reminded me of the Cardinals victory. After the first service, the fellow who sits in front of me mentioned it too. (Those two have been trying to get me to convert to Cardinalism. I tell them its not in my Cub fan nature...)

FWIW, I was cheering for the "Tiger Cubs". BTW, how did Neifi do?

Did anyone the Cubs traded in 2006 not make it to at least a playoff game?

Sunday night I visited a Cardinal fan friend who really did her best rub it in. She hooped and hollered and let out some Woo hoo's that would put our Ronnie "Woo woo" Wickers to shame.

But it didn't bug me. Really, it didn't.

We long-time Cubs fans are rather used to someone else winning the World Series. I ask those Cardinal fans "Are you guys still playing? It's almost November. Go Bears!"

FWIW, the Cubs were 11-8 vs. the Cardinals in 2006. If the Cubs had won what? One or two more games vs. the Cards then the Cards wouldn't have even seen the playoffs except on tv.

BTW, the last time the Cubs had this dismal a w/l record was in 2002.
Remember what happened after 2002? Yep, 2003. Now that was a fun year!

I was going to write that both 2003 and 2007 are prime numbers, but I looked it up and found that 2003 is prime, but 2007 isn't a prime number. The next prime number year is 2011.

I spent part of the weekend looking for some web-tv units that we have around the house. We're in shock that someone ACTUALLY wants these and were delighted to have a chance to pass them on to a new home.

My Uncle and some friends gave us their old web-tv units. We were keeping them around for reasons unknown to even ourselves.

Never did find the web-tv boxes, but I did find the negatives from a Cubs/Sox game I photographed way back when. Tony LaRussa was the White Sox manager then. Perhaps I'll share some photos from that game when I get them scanned.

Oh, in the news today...
