Support Don Levin to Buy the Cubs
First let me say that I am not Don Levin, I never met Don Levin, and I have no business or other connections with Don Levin.
So Who is Don Levin? Levin is a Chicago native Cub Fan with enough money to buy the Cubs himself, enough smarts to get Mike Downey to do an article about him in today's Sunday Tribune sportspage, and enough heart to take on the task of making the Cubbies into the team every true Cub fan wants to see.
Levin founded and owns the Chicago Wolves, a family oriented successful hockey team. He is going to call John McDonough to tell him that what Downey says in today's paper is true. He is not phased by a more than half-billion dollar asking price, and he wants to keep the Cubs at Wrigley and make them winners. Downey's column link.
So Cub Fans---
Write to the Tribune. Support Levin's interest. The stars can come into alignment here. I don't care if they sell the Cubs for too small a price, as long as they sell them to a winning Chicagoan like Don Levin.

Make the Cubs Like a Minor League Team?
On what basis do you call the Wolves a "family oriented successful hockey team"? If you mean by both low ticket prices and a winning record, remember the coaches and players are supplied by the Atlanta Thrashers and their salaries are paid by the parent NHL team. The "winning" of the Wolves is due not to Don Levin, but to the Atlanta Thrashers.
What does this mean? That the Cubs should be sold to a man whose professional sports experience is limited to running a bush league team? Using this logic, the owners of the Kane County Cougars would be a better fit since they at least know how to run a baseball team. Actually, the owners of an independent league baseball team would fit in at Wrigley much better since they have to pay their players and figure out how to keep a roster filled with winning players and coaches on a budget.
Don't Let the Facts Get in the Way of Your Opinion, Charlie!
Your logic is laughable. The AHL is hardly a bush league and the Atlanta Thrashers neither hire, nor pay the salary of the coaching staff of the Wolves. True, a portion of the roster is controlled by the Atlanta organization, but the bulk of the talent is selected by the Chicago General Manager and, they are paid by the Wolves. The three championships and five appearances in the finals by the team, coupled with the fact that a Chicago-born successful businessman (Don Levin) who actually relates to and interacts with the fans is the owner, is perhaps a concept that is foreign to you in this town.
