What do we think of Ted Lilly?
The papers are reporting that the Cubs have made a substantial offer to Ted Lilly, a left handed pitcher. He is seen as a starter, likely the number two starter. This is a guy I know next to nothing about. However the buzz is he has had shoulder problems, and he yields a lot of fly balls. This does not seem promising. Ted Lilly
Danny Jackson?
Lilly and Jackson
That would be too bad.
It looks like a final deal is getting close. ESPN.com quotes Lilly's agent as saying, "We're beyond the preliminary stage [with the Cubs], but our discussions are ongoing."
A big difference between Lilly and Jackson is that Lilly has made 30+ starts in three of the past four years, and 25 starts in that fourth year. When Jackson arrived in Chicago, he hadn't gotten past 21 starts each of the two previous seasons.
