Cubs Sign Daryle Ward to 1-Year Deal

"The Chicago Cubs and first baseman-outfielder Daryle Ward agreed on a one-year contract Thursday," reports SportsTicker. He's the "new John Mabry." The AP says the deal will be worth $1.05M, about what Mabry made last season. Ward, 31, has a career OPS 3.5% below league average. He did hit .308/.380/.546 in 150 plate appearances for Washington and Atlanta last year, when his exposure to left handed pitchers was appropriately limited to 19 plate appearances. As of today, the Braves were still trying to resign Ward, reports the Savannah Morning News.
