No Hugs For Sosa

Pete Barth of the Sheboygan Press thinks that Cubs fans are displaying too much anti-Sosa sentiment following his departure.  (It seems to me that the anti-Burnitz/anti-Hendry sentiment (see here too, and here) is much higher right now, but that's another issue.)  Barth writes:

He was far from perfect. But despite his drawbacks, he was a great slugger not so long ago, and a great fit for the Cubs.

It was time for a split, to be sure. But despite his mistakes, I think his once-adoring fans owe him a hug goodbye, not a kick in the pants.

Just because I appreciate all that Sosa did for the Cubs in the past, I'm supposed to hug him when he leaves?  Even when last season he 1) resisted moving down in the lineup, relented, and then complained after the season about the move, and 2) walked out on his teammates during the last game of the year and lied about it?

Admiration for what a great player he was?  Sure.  A hug?  I'll save that for my 10-month old daughter.
