Cubs Release Rusch

January 25, 2007 by cubsnet

To open up a spot on the 40-man roster, the Cubs released Glendon Rusch today. That signing did not work out so well. The 40-man roster still has one player too many.

Sad Reality

It's tough when someone gets released, especially a guy like Rusch who was diagnosed with a serious blood clot in his lungs. Thankfully they reportedly got him well from that. My mother always stressed having one's health is the most important thing. Hope Glen Rusch takes that seriously. Hopefully for him he will land on his feet and have a good season elsewhere.

There are an awful lot of guys getting paid minimal salaries to pick from for the final cut.

With all due respect . . .

I, too, hope that Glendon Spahn has the best of health now and in the future. I will confess, however, that I was very disappointed to see him show up for spring training last seasoning with apparent disregard for what is expected of an athlete, i.e. to show up as if he'd spent more time at treadmill than the banquet table. In fact, the only way to excuse a paid professional athlete for such negligence is if his performance overcomes his own lassitude; in Rusch's case, his slovenliness just didn't work for him. So, Glendon, I hope you're well, but I can't say that I'm sorry to see you go--you showed very little respect for the game by slacking off on your conditioning.
