Andy Masur Takes Job With Padres
The Cubs radio booth is a man down. "Masur, who spent the last eight years on Cubs broadcasts, including
five seasons doing one-half inning of play-by-play during Pat Hughes' breaks, agreed to a two-year deal with an option for 2009 to serve as play-by-play and color man on Padres' radio broadcasts," reports the Chicago Tribune. "Masur will join veteran Padres announcers Jerry Coleman and Ted Leitner in the booth and do up to three innings of play-by-play and six innings of color, plus pregame interviews."
I've always enjoyed Masur's in-game updates and half-inning of play-by-play while Pat used the restroom. Plus, he could banter with Ron well. Masur beat out 100 applicants for the Padres job, and deservedly so. I wish him well.
