Inside the Box Score: Brewers 9, Cubs 4 -- 4/8/2007

Our Lord may have risen from the grave, but the Cubs couldn't rise from the four runs Wade Miller allowed in the 2nd inning today, including home runs by Gabe Gross and Geoff Jenkins. And if I had a dime for each time the Cubs have been beaten by a soft-tossing lefty....

Today was Chris Capuano's turn. Capuano is now 8-2 against the Cubs since the beginning of 2004.

Lou Piniella showed one strategy he will employ this year with a lefthanded starter on the mound. He correctly benched Jacque Jones, and put Ryan Theriot in rightfield, leaving Mark DeRosa at second base. Theriot may be a weak hitting right fielder, but he's bound to be better against lefties than Jones.

Scott Eyre had his second straight bad outing to start the season. Called on to hold the deficit at 2 in the 9th inning, he allowed a bases clearing triple to the man with the painful batting stance, Craig Counsell. Eyre has now allowed 5 runs in 2 innings. It took Eyre until May 28th last year to allow his 5th run.

The Cubs play 14 of their next 16 games at Wrigley Field.
