Power Still Off

The Cubs don't have a home run out of their outfield or their first baseman yet, and as a result, they have an ISO of .101, which is now 15th in the National League, ahead of only the San Francisco Giants, who sit at .094. The league average is .137. Florida leads the NL at .199.

A few other numbers after 11 games:

--The Cubs are 0-4 in close games.

--Line drives are the goal right? Well, Cubs' hitters are second in the league in line drive percentage, at 20%. And Cubs' pitchers lead the league in lowest LD% allowed, at 14%. Yet, that hasn't translated into wins, yet.

--Ryan Theriot's 47.1 LD% leads the team by 19 percentage points.

--Michael Wuertz (0 runs allowed in 5.1 innings) has not allowed a line drive yet this year.

Power

Soriano really looks bad at the plate to me - a kind of weak upper cut swing. I can't see many home runs out of that.

3 homers as of the 6th inning

Well, that helps that. Barrett, DeRosa, and Floyd have gone deep tonight against the Padres, as the game now sits in the bottom of the 6th.

re: 3 homers

Right. Plus, Jason Marquis went 2-3 with a double, silencing those of us who have been wondering about his bat.

Oh, and he pitched OK.

Marquis' hitting

silencing those of us

You mean there were more people worrying about it than just you? ;)

To quote Bart Simpson: "As long as you have absolutely no follow-up questions, yes."
