Eric Patterson Extends Multi-Hit Game Streak to Seven Games

After today's 17-7 win, the Iowa Cubs are now 21-16 and in first place in the American North division of the Pacific Coast League. Two infielders are playing big parts in Iowa's success: second baseman Eric Patterson and third baseman (and 2B and SS) Mike Fontenot.

Patterson was 2-for-4 with 2 walks today and now has had a multi-hit game in seven straight games. For the year, he's hitting .339/.389/.517.

Fontenot, who, with Patterson at second and Ronny Cedeno back at short, has kicked Scott Moore to the outfield, had 4 hits today. In Saturday's Des Moines Register, Iowa Cubs manager Buddy Bailey was quoted as saying, "I have a hard time believing that anyone in the Pacific Coast League's had a better week than Font." For the year, Fontenot is hitting .368/.406/.640. He had been acquired in the Sammy Sosa trade and was up very briefly with the Cubs in early 2005. He and Ryan Theriot had been the double-play combination at LSU.
