Fontenot Called Up

Mike Fontenot deserved his call-up. It took some minor injuries to Derrek Lee and Mark DeRosa to make it happen, though. And for that reason, it might not be any longer than his two brief call-ups in 2005. Rocky Cherry was the casualty, having been optioned to Iowa to make room for Fontenot.

Once Lee and DeRosa are ready to play again, which is supposed to be any day, a relief pitcher will likely be brought back up from Iowa, in light of Lou Piniella's preference for twelve relievers.

Fontenot had to be added to the 40-man roster, which was full, which means someone needs to be moved to the 60-day disabled list. That will assuredly be Mark Prior, who is done for the year.

For the record, I was way ahead of the curve on the need to call up Fontenot.

Wood placed on 60-day DL, not Prior

The Cubs put Kerry Wood on the 60-day DL instead of Mark Prior. I'm confused as to Prior's status, as he's not on any disabled list.

Prior's status

He was optioned before the season started, so he's on the minor league DL.

Thanks for the

Thanks for the clarification! I forgot he had option years left.
