May 17 in Cub's history
Highlights from previous May 17th Cubs games of the past...
1977 - The Chicago Cubs hit seven home runs in beating the San Diego Padres 23-6 at Wrigley Field. Larry Biittner, Jerry Morales and Bobby Murcer hit consecutive home runs in the fifth for the Cubs.1979 - Dave Kingman of the Cubs hit three home runs and Mike Schmidt of the Phillies hit two, and Philadelphia beat Chicago 23-22 in 10 innings at Wrigley Field. Bill Buckner had a grand slam and seven RBIs for Chicago. The game included 11 home runs and 50 hits.
Will this date in 2007 offer an equally interesting game? We'll see.

Does blowing a 4 run lead in the 9th . . .
. . . count as interesting? I suppose it does. Just not the happy kind of interesting.
happy interesting
The 1979 game isn't exactly 'happy' interesting, either (not that I remember it, being all of 1 year old at the time). But, as they say, them's the breaks.
Last year on May 17, Sean Marshall and three relievers combined for a one-hit shutout of the Nats. That was happy interesting.
And in the "Man, I sure miss those guys" file, on May 17, 2005, Derrek Lee went 4-4, hit 2 homers, and drove in all four of the Cubs runs, while Mark Prior pitched 7 strong innings in the Cubs 4-3 win against Pittsburgh. Also, Ryan Dempster pitched a 1-2-3 9th for the save in that game, which wouldn't have seemed all that interesting until today.
Watching the Cubs score 22 runs in one game would be fun...

Of course, seeing them lose it would be a bummer...especially if you're a Cubs pitcher.

scoring 22
I think watching them score 22 and lose would be more than I could take. Especially watching them fall behind 21-9 at one point in the game, come back, and still lose.
No, I'm very glad I'm too young to remember this. I find it somewhat scarring to know it even happened.
