Minor League Roundup: April 18, 2005
Harvey shows first-round draft pick power times three, Murton hits two of his own, and Patterson is still too good for the Midwest League.
Iowa wins 7-6. Starting pitcher Renyel Pinto struggled for the third straight outing. But at least he got his struggles out of the way early. The first three batters he faced in the game scored, but he then closed with 4 shutout innings. In total, he pitched 5 innings, gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and 5 walks, and struck out 10. The stuff is there. Controlling it, as is often the case, is they key. David Kelton had a big game, going 3-4 with a homer, a walk, and a stolen base. Angel Echeverria also homered.
West Tenn wins 8-6. The Diamond Jaxx scored at least once in each of the 4th through 9th innings to pull out the win. Leftfielder Matt Murton was the offensive star, going 3-4 with 2 homers and a walk. Shortstop Buck Coats and catcher Jose Reyes each reached base 3 times. Reliever Kevin McGlinchey pitched a perfect ninth to earn his first save of the year.
Daytona loses 10-2. Starting pitcher Anderson Tavarez struck out 8 and walked just 1 in 5 innings, but allowed 3 runs. Centerfielder Chris Walker went 2-5 with a triple and third baseman Scott Moore went 2-4 with a double.
Peoria wins 10-5. How did we get here? "I have led you here, for I am Spartacus," says Ryan Harvey. The Chiefs' rightfielder had a monster night, going 4-5 with three home runs. He scored 4 times and had 7 RBI's. Second baseman Eric Patterson got on base 4 times (3 hits and a walk) in front of Harvey, scoring after 3 of them. Third baseman Drew Larsen had a double and triple.
