Gallagher Demoted to Make Room for Ramirez's Return
The Cubs are, likely temporarily, going to go with 11 pitchers, as they demoted Sean Gallagher to Iowa after today's 6-5 loss to the Texas Rangers. Aramis Ramirez will come off the disabled list tomorrow. Gallagher allowed 6 runs in his 5.2 innings, over 3 relief appearances. Why was he called up again, and taken out of his rotation spot in double-A? What Brian C calls the "Random Transaction Generator," perhaps?

Gallagher
I wouldn't say that this was a random transaction. I'd put this one more in the "Call Up a Pitcher That You're Excited About, and Then Get Discouraged When He Doesn't Have Immediate Good Results" file. See also Rich Hill, Jae Kuk Ryu and Sergio Mitre, among others. I guess we should be happy that last year was such a disaster or the same thing would have happened to Sean Marshall and Hill wouldn't have had the chance to redeem himself.
