Minor League Roundup: April 19, 2005
Wins all arounds; Mitre throws well for the first time, and Murton and Patterson continue to hit.
Iowa wins 7-0. Sergio Mitre showed up in a big way, pitching 7 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5. This was his first good start of the year after two duds. Third baseman Scott McClain hit his 3rd homer of the year, David Kelton (playing centerfield for the first time this year) had 2 doubles, and first baseman Micah Hoffpauir went 3-4.
West Tenn wins 6-4. Starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco gave up his first runs of the year after a string of 12 shutout innings, but still just gave up 2 runs in 6.1 innings. Rightfielder Matt Murton went 3-4 with a double (he's now hitting .478), centerfielder Felix Pie went 2-4 with a walk and 2 stolen bases, and second baseman Jemel Spearman had 3 hits.
Daytona wins 7-5. Starting pitcher Carlos Marmol struck out 10 in 5.2 innings, but also allowed 3 runs. First baseman Brian Dopirak hit his 2nd home run of the year. Second baseman Issmael Salas hit his first, while also recording another hit and a walk. Centerfielder/leadoff hitter Chris Walker went 2-3 with 2 walks and stole his 8th base of the year.
Peoria wins 6-5. It doesn't ever really get boring to talk about the same player all the time when he's going good, so I'll just continue: Eric Patterson is good. 2-4 in this game. Though he did get picked off first base once. Rightfielder Ryan Harvey had 2 hits, including a double, and 2 walks, and also stole a base. First baseman Alberto Garcia hit his first homer of the year.
