Dopirak Designated for Assignment

Brian Dopirak, the Cubs' 2004 minor league player of the year, is off the 40-man roster, to which he had been added in 2005. The Cubs have designated him for assignment, reports the Daily Herald. This was expected. Dopirak had a 516 OPS in AA this year before being demoted to high-A Daytona. He has an 828 OPS for Daytona and is hitting home runs again, but he also has 74 K's against just 16 BB's.

Dopirak clears waivers

Dopirak cleared waivers and is back with Daytona, reports the Sun-Times.

The day Dopirak and his

The day Dopirak and his fellow Dunedin High alumnus Ryan Harvey are released will be a day to celebrate. They are a sad testimant to the inabilitly of the Cubs scouting department to analyze amatuer hitters and to the organizations inability to instill good traits in the talented hitters it does have. Hopefully, Tim Wilken is going to change that from the scouting end, and it never hurts to have a major league manager who values players who will take a walk. Hopefully, Piniella's philosophy will trickle down.
