Cubs claim Shannon Stewart off waivers

According to Pro Sports Daily, the Cubs have made a waiver claim on Oakland A's outfielder Shannon Stewart. In 393 AB, the 33 year old Stewart, who hits right-handed, has a .298/.360/.399 average with 35 BB to 43 K and 10 SB to 1 CS. He has also scored 54 runs while driving in 35.
Stewart is probably the best the Cubs could do in terms of waiver deals if this actually goes down, but I'm not sure what overall effect he would have on the team. He's never played in the NL, and switching leagues sometimes has a detrimental affect on players in the short term.

Paul Sullivan has more.
Stewart
Stewart's not a bad player, but I can't help but notice that he doesn't play centerfield or catcher, and he's probably no better than Floyd or Murton in the corner outfield spots. So it's hard to know what use he would have on this team.
I suppose he could play center.
